Summary:Beneath the Surface: The Movement Vocabulary in Siobhan Davies' Choreography Since 1988. A Phd thesis.
This thesis is a detailed examination of the movement vocabulary of one of Britain's leading choreographers. Siobhan Davies has been choreographing since the early 1970s but the investigation focuses on her work since 1988. This particular period is selected for how it marks a significant change in her choreography. Following an extended study trip to America during 1987, Davies returned to Britain and established her own company. This provided a new context in which she was able to develop her choreography. What is proposed is that after 1988, Davies' movement vocabulary took on an altogether new dynamic colouring.
